Purpose: To recognize outstanding contributions to the fields of chromatography with particular consideration given to developments of new methods.
This award consists of a plaque and $2500. The latter may be used to help defray travel expenses associated with the recipient’s participation in the Division’s award ceremony (typically held at the ACS Fall National Meeting each year) which are not covered separately by the Division.

In 2025, the Division of Analytical Chemistry established the Joseph J. Kirkland Award in Chromatography American Chemical Society to preserve the legacy of the ACS Award in Chromatography national award due to lack of corporate funding.
To adapt the award into a divisional level honor given by the Division of Analytical Chemistry, the co-founders of Advanced Materials Technology provided initial support to establish the Joseph J. Kirkland Award in Chromatography starting in 2025.
As an extension of the most prestigious American Chemical Society award in separation science, we believe it is important to continue the opportunity to provide recognition to outstanding leaders in this field. To sustain the award at the divisional level, and eventually re-establish it at the national level, we are seeking additional funds from the broader scientific community.
